No One Walks Alone: A Call to Be Signs of Hope
by Fr. Long Phi Nguyen, SVD | 08/05/2025 | Updates from the PastorInspired by the 36th International Youth Festival in Medjugorje
I find it deeply inspiring to see millions of young pilgrims from around the world come together this summer in Medjugorje for the 36th International Youth Festival. You can feel the vibrant energy of so many hearts united by a shared longing—to encounter Christ and rediscover the strength that faith brings. The festival’s theme, “We will go to the house of the Lord” (Psalm 122:1), beautifully reminds us that the journey of faith is not meant to be walked alone, but together—as a community of hope-filled believers.
Pope Leo XIV spoke directly to the youth with a stirring message:
“No one walks alone. We encourage each other. We ignite each other. The flames of our hearts unite to become one great fire that lights the way forward. You too, dear young people, are not solitary pilgrims. This path toward the Lord is one we walk together. That is the beauty of a faith lived out in the Church.”
In a world that often exalts independence and self-reliance, Pope Leo’s words bring us back to the core of Christian life: communion. We are created for relationship—for encounter. God reveals His presence not only in holy places but also in the people around us—those who walk with us through both joy and struggle. Speaking again to the youth, Pope Leo affirmed, “you are the sign of hope!” This is more than a compliment—it is a calling.
When we walk together, support one another, and lift each other up, we don’t just go to the house of the Lord—we become it. We become the living Church, a beacon of hope in a fragmented world.
As summer comes to a close and a new season begins here at Holy Spirit Parish, may this message of hope take root in our hearts and in our community. Let us recommit to walking with one another—with joy, with mercy, and with courage. Let us be attentive to those who feel unseen or alone, and bold enough to reach out with compassion and kindness.
To our young people especially: You are not just the Church of tomorrow—you are the Church of today. Your presence, your witness, and your hunger for God already shine as a powerful sign of hope for our entire community. We need your energy, your voice, and your gifts. I invite you to take an active role in our parish—whether as youth volunteers, in liturgical ministries, music, outreach, or wherever your talents may lead you. You have a place here, and the Church is stronger when you are fully part of it.
So let us go forward—together—toward the house of the Lord. Never alone. Always in communion. Let us be the fire that lights the way. May God bless you and your family abundantly.
